DREAMS It was almost three o'clock When I awoke sweating Even as the cool Louisiana breeze Caressed and stole kisses All over my body I was plastered on a rose colored canvass Covered with a blue blanket Tossing around, trying not to see The darkness of the mind That was teasing my imagination With moving pictures of undersea creatures Big fish lapping at one another - taking turns to bite Schools of smaller fish continually moving, Swimming, suddenly turning Trying to get away From the bigger fish Trying to catch a meal for the day As I turn flat on my back I saw another mouth Engulfing shiny black worms Whose last gasp of air Were noiseless shouts and giggles That melted with the stream Caused by the sudden twist of Yet another school of transparent fish As the hungry mouth continued eating And the uneasy fish continued swimming Gliding, still munching And suddenly, rebirthing And that was when my conscious mind wandered And let my tired body get some sleep And that was when I knew I saw you Standing right before me Standing right by me Luscious hair cut just above the shoulder Parted, with all of it clipped by the ear Dark hair, that still shines in the moonlight How I long to touch just one strand I may not have noticed the eyes Nor the face But I was aware Of the white sleeveless cotton shirt That hugged your body perfectly The way I have always cherished And I also saw The blue skirt that covered the legs That you have always wrapped in nylon stockings But now I noticed Were free to walk their ways It was you The only one who could make my voice speak Gentle words Even when I was furious It was you Who calmed me down When I was shivering Tossing and turning Trying to get free From the blue blanket That was suffocating Every single breathe in me We started walking And I accidentally touched The curve on your back And I accidentally Let my lips touch yours As without warning You said without emotion And not a moment of hesitation That we can still do the things we used to do Only in my dreams And I knew that... That I knew...
