EARLY AFTERNOON Early in the afternoon Right after the last drop of rain had fallen On the ground still wet with kisses And tears mixed with perspiration Early in the afternoon I wait for the one I long to love Me back early in the afternoon Those brown eyes That looked smaller under those glasses The pouty lips that was almost a smirk Concealing a smile for some happy memory Memory that should have included me And those brown eyes and pouty lips The clouds remained gray And to be honest, I don't know what it means I don't know when the rain will fall again But I do know that I am wishing And hoping against all hope That for some miraculous reason Or some ridiculous coincidence I guess what I am trying to say Is that I long for those days When my arms were wrapped around you Holding you holding me Touching the hands that are touching mine Exploring every contour With kisses and caresses And tears mixed with perspiration My air filled with your perfume And breath I can almost feel As you take in air in rhythm Synchronized to my longing And my aches and pains And my heart throbbing Early in the afternoon I wait For one more early afternoon
